Ponselle, Rosa

Rosa Ponselle(1897-1981), American soprano, began as vuadville singer alongside with her sister, made her Metropolitan debut opposite Caruso in 1918, she remained the foremost prima donna there until 1937. She was active in teaching; directed the Baltimore Civic Opera Company. Her voice was regarded as one the best in the century.
