Mitrofan Pyatnitsky(1864-1927), Russian musicologist and choir conductor. He carried on research and compilation of folk music. He established the famous Pyatnitsky Choir in 1910 from 18 peasants originally from Ryazan and Smolensk gubernias. After his death in 1927, the chorus was named after him. Pyatnitsky focused on traditional Russian songs. The performers sang, enacted dance scenes and played folk instruments.
